I've found my joy and that's making collage art. But what I create doesn't mean much until it is shared. I'm a pile of paper scraps and you are now the glue. Your interest my art will keep me challenged so I can grow as an artist, and grow this community.

Why Collage? Is It Art?

Everyone has some connection to collage. In my earliest memory, it involves a pot of paste, rubber cement or mucilage and a Sear's catalog.
Collage is chaos and order at the same time. It's sifting and collating and world building. What's not to love?
But is it art?
When Victorian women constructed idealized scrapbook rooms that were pop and wacky and rich in texture and color, and richer in dreams and wishes, no one celebrated those creations.
When Picasso and Braque experimented with the same cheap paper sources in 1912, a new art form was born.
In this newsletter, we'll look at moments in collage. Here's a quick read to wade into it: The Collages of Picasso, Braque, and Gris

Play and Practice

I keep a little notebook of thumbnail images from some of my favorite Instagram inspirations and let the colors and shapes inform a collage sketch. It's a great way to be open. I do not want to repeat or mimic the original image. I want to go in a new direction.
I'll share some other practices (that are really just play).
